At Mid-State Technical College, preparing students for careers in IT goes beyond the classroom. Students gain hands-on experience in fast-paced environments where technology is constantly changing.
Each year, students in the IT Cybersecurity Specialist and IT Network Specialist programs attend CypherCon, one of Wisconsin’s leading cybersecurity conferences. There, they explore interactive learning spaces, participate in hands-on challenges, and experience live demonstrations focused on topics like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity threats, and network defense strategies.
Students do more than observe. They solve challenges, compete in cybersecurity activities, and apply classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios. The event also gives students opportunities to connect with employers and explore careers in the growing IT industry.
That same hands-on energy has also shaped Mid-State Tech-Con, Mid-State’s interactive technology event designed to introduce high school students to careers in IT and cybersecurity.
Through activities and demonstrations, students explore technology concepts in a way that is engaging, accessible, and career focused. Mid-State Tech-Con helps students see themselves in technology careers while creating an early connection to Mid-State’s IT programs.
Together, these experiences create a pathway from career exploration to hands-on learning and industry engagement. Students build technical skills, gain confidence, and connect directly with professionals in the field.
