At Mid-State Technical College, success in the beauty industry starts with more than technical skills. It starts with creativity, confidence, and the drive to build a future.
For Cosmetology graduate Erin Karbowski, that journey began with a passion for hairstyling at a young age. After exploring a different path, she returned home and discovered Mid-State’s Cosmetology program, where she found the hands-on learning and support that helped turn her passion into a career.
Inside Mid-State’s salon environment, students train in cutting, coloring, styling, and customer service while building professionalism and confidence. With guidance from experienced instructors, students gain the skills needed to succeed in the beauty industry.
“The instructors always wanted the best for each student,” Erin shared. “They supported us every step of the way.”
That foundation helped Erin build a successful career in cosmetology. After years of industry experience, she became an independent stylist and later opened her own salon, Avant Hair Lounge. Through hard work, organization, and determination, she turned her goals into reality.
Today, Erin gives back by returning to Mid-State as a salon floor instructor and guest speaker. She shares real-world experiences with current students and helps them understand what it takes to grow in the industry and build a business of their own.
For Erin, cosmetology is about more than hairstyling. It is about relationships, trust, and helping people feel confident.
Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and real-world experience, Mid-State’s Cosmetology program prepares students for long-term success in salons, spas, and business ownership.
