With Mid-State’s Dual Credit program, students can take college-level courses right at their high school, taught by certified instructors using Mid-State’s curriculum. It’s a powerful chance to challenge yourself academically, explore careers, and get a head start on your college journey.
- Dual Credit classes are free for students.
- Many transfer to other Wisconsin technical colleges or four-year institutions.
- Sophomores, juniors, and seniors—and in some cases even freshmen—can participate.

How to Participate
Dual Credit participation is simple, and your high school and Mid-State will guide you every step of the way. Here’s how to get started:
Step 1: Talk to Your High School Counselor
Ask about Dual Credit courses offered at your school and which classes fit your academic and career goals.
Step 2: Review Your Course Options
Explore available Dual Credit classes and pathway guides to understand course expectations, credits earned, and transfer potential.
Step 3: Complete Required Paperwork
At the start of the course, your high school Dual Credit teacher will help you complete the Mid-State registration form. Only students who submit this form earn Dual Credit.
Step 4: Register with Mid-State
Your teacher will submit your registration directly to Mid-State, ensuring you are officially enrolled and eligible to earn college credit.
Step 5: Order Any Required Course Materials
Some Dual Credit or Start College Now courses may require textbooks or course materials. Follow Mid-State’s online bookstore instructions to order what you need.
Step 6: Earn Your Credits
After successfully completing the class, your instructor enters your grade with Mid-State—and it becomes part of your official college transcript.

If your high school is not listed or you see no current agreements for your school, contact your school counselor to ask about Dual Credit opportunities.

Dual Credit FAQs
A Dual Credit course is a Mid-State Technical College course taught at your high school by a Mid-State-certified high school instructor. Students earn both high school and college credit that appears on an official Mid-State transcript and may transfer to other colleges.
Yes! Through partnerships with area school districts, Mid-State provides Dual Credit courses at no cost to students—including tuition and textbooks.
Students in grades 9–12 who take a Dual Credit course at their high school and complete the Mid-State registration form at the start of the course.
Many do. Colleges determine how credits transfer, but Dual Credit courses commonly transfer to:
- Wisconsin technical colleges
- Some four-year colleges
Students may be asked for a transcript or course syllabus when transferring credits.
Submit a transcript request through Mid-State’s online transcript ordering service. A small fee applies.
Students earning a C– or lower may drop the course before 80 percent of the course is completed. Dropped courses do not appear on the Mid-State transcript.
Absolutely. Dual Credit helps students save money, build confidence, and potentially reduce time to degree—no matter where they plan to enroll after high school.
Nothing extra is required! Once they start, any earned Dual Credit will already be on their Mid-State transcript and applied to their program if the course is required.
