Student Ambassador
Representing Mid-State. Sharing Our Story.
The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) Student Ambassador Program recognizes outstanding students from each of Wisconsin’s 16 technical colleges. Each year, one student from Mid-State Technical College is selected to represent the College and the statewide technical college system.
Student Ambassadors help share the story of technical education—highlighting its impact on students, communities, and Wisconsin’s workforce. The program also builds leadership skills, celebrates student achievement, and raises awareness of the value of hands-on, career-focused education.
Mid-State’s Current Ambassador

Sam Carpenter
2026 WTCS Student Ambassador
Precision Machining Technician
I chose to enroll at Mid-State Technical College because the idea of moving away and the financial burden of a university felt overwhelming, but I knew that pursuing higher education was still a dream I wanted to make a reality. That’s where Mid-State came in—offering me the chance to further my education without having to leave home or break the bank.
At Mid-State, I’ve not only gained valuable knowledge but also found a sense of community. I've made lifelong friends and had the opportunity to join the Student Leadership Board, where I can actively contribute and make a meaningful impact. I’ve also been able to step into the role of vice president for Wisconsin Student Government, a statewide organization representing and advocating for all of Wisconsin’s technical college students.
Mid-State has truly been a stepping stone to success, proving that with determination and the right support, you can accomplish great things right where you are.

Student Ambassadors take part in leadership development activities and are honored at a statewide recognition banquet attended by family members, college leaders, and system partners. Ambassadors receive an award and scholarship and share their personal education stories.
After the banquet, ambassadors serve in an official role for one year—and continue as ambassadors for technical education for life.
The WTCS Student Ambassador is selected from Mid-State’s student representatives. Ambassadors are students who show strong commitment beyond the classroom, including:
- Leadership on campus
- Involvement in the community
- Dedication to higher education
- Pride in technical education
Good grades matter—but leadership, service, and engagement matter just as much.
A selection committee reviews current student representatives and evaluates their involvement, leadership, and contributions. Three finalists are invited to interview. One student is then chosen to represent Mid-State as its WTCS Student Ambassador.
The selected student will:
- Represent Mid-State and WTCS statewide
- Attend an all-expenses-paid student ambassador conference
- Receive leadership and public speaking experience
- Share their story at the ambassador banquet
- Earn a $200 Mid-State Foundation scholarship
