Travel to Germany

Experience Germany Like a Local

Mid-State students, are you ready to experience life in another country—not as a tourist, but as part of a community? Mid-State’s Short-Term Cultural Exchange with Max-Eyth Schule in Germany gives you the chance to do just that.

If you’re one of the six students selected to participate, you’ll travel to the city of Dreieich, near Frankfurt. Interested? Complete the application form below.

"My fondest memory in Germany was when my host brought me along to a family dinner at a winery…. Despite having no understanding of basic German, I loved that I could laugh with them solely based on their facial expressions and German-style laugh. The world got a little smaller in a good way that evening."

Exchange Details

This is more than a trip—it's a full cultural exchange experience. If selected, you will travel with a small Mid-State group to the town of Dreieich, located just outside Frankfurt. You’ll be welcomed into the home of a German student or host family, giving you a true “live like a local” experience.

What to Expect

During the exchange, you will:

  • Stay with a German host family
  • Visit major cultural and historical sites
  • Explore local businesses and industries
  • Attend classes at Max-Eyth Schule
  • Experience everyday German life—meals, traditions, routines, and more

Worried about the language barrier? Don’t be. Many people you meet will speak English, and your hosts will help you along the way. You’ll also learn a few helpful German words and phrases before your trip.

This exchange is limited to six students, and selection is based on:

  • Your application and personal essay
  • Two employee recommendations
  • Your standing with the College
  • A personal interview (for finalists)

Students selected for the program must also attend required orientation meetings before departure.
